Who requires FBI LiveScan Service?

LiveScan USA utilizes a comprehensive managed service that directly submits electronic fingerprints to the FBI to compare with criminal history record information with fast (less than 24 hours) electronic response for customers who have authorized access under federal statues (FBI Channeling) as well as individuals seeking personal FBI background checks for a variety of reasons.

FBI Fingerprint Channeling

Our premier service is delivering fingerprint-based criminal background check services though our  authorized FBI channeler, ID Solutions, a division of TRP Associates, LLC. Of 2,000+ companies offering background checks, we’ve partnered up with one of the elite few firms qualified to exchange information electronically with the FBI.

Only you can request a copy of your own Identification Record.

Individuals typically make this request for personal review, to challenge the information on record, to satisfy a requirement for adopting a child in the U.S. or internationally, or to satisfy a requirement to live, work, or travel in a foreign country (i.e., police certificate, letter of good conduct, criminal history background, etc.).

The federal law that allows this access is referenced in Departmental Order 556-73 (http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/criminal-history-summary-checks). This special access was granted to select FBI contracted channeling companies.  Previously, in order for a person to get their own FBI background check, they would have to submit their fingerprints for their personal review using postal mail; a process that takes 6 – 8 weeks.

Background Checks for Employment or Licensing

If you are requesting a background check for employment or licensing within the U.S., you may be required by state statute or federal law to submit your request through your state identification bureau or the requesting federal agency. You should contact the agency requiring the background check or the appropriate state identification bureau (or state police) for the correct procedures to follow for obtaining an FBI fingerprint background check for employment or licensing purposes.

Many employers that do not meet state statutes to receive this background check MAY direct their employees to use this service to receive a "personal record review" and provide this report prior to being employed. This report is more accurate than any name-based background checks, since it is based upon fingerprint data which cannot be faked by identity thieves.
